Our Core Values

Our work is grounded in the following values:

CULTURAL RESPECT

We honor the identities, traditions, histories, and lived experiences of BIPOC families. We believe support should recognize culture as a source of connection, wisdom, resilience, and strength.

COMPASSION

We meet parents with kindness and understanding. We recognize that every parent experiences challenges and deserves support without shame, blame, or judgment.

EMPOWERMENT

We help parents recognize their own abilities and make informed decisions. Our role is not to take control of a family’s journey but to provide tools, encouragement, and support that strengthen parental confidence.

EDUCATION

We believe accurate, accessible information gives parents greater confidence when making decisions about their children and families.

CONNECTION

Healthy families are strengthened through meaningful relationships. We create opportunities for parents to connect with their children, other parents, professionals, and supportive community networks.

EQUITY AND INCLUSION

Every family deserves access to respectful services, quality education, and meaningful opportunities to thrive. We work to reduce barriers and create spaces in which parents feel represented, welcomed, and valued.

RESILIENCE

We recognize the courage and perseverance demonstrated by BIPOC families. We help parents build upon the strengths they already possess while developing additional tools for overcoming challenges.

GROWTH

Parenting is a lifelong learning experience. We encourage parents to remain open to reflection, learning, healing, and personal development throughout every stage of family life.

MINDFULNESS AND BALANCE

We encourage parents to become more intentional in how they care for themselves and respond to their children. Mindfulness can help families slow down, communicate more effectively, manage stress, and create greater peace within the home.

SPIRITUAL AND PERSONAL WELL-BEING

We respect the role that spirituality, personal values, purpose, and inner reflection may play in a family’s journey. We support each parent in identifying the sources of strength and meaning that help them remain grounded.

OUR APPROACH TO SUPPORTING
PARENTS

The Parent Education Initiative follows a strengths-based and family-centered approach. We begin with the belief that parents are experts on their own families and already possess valuable wisdom, experience, and abilities. Our purpose is to help families build upon those strengths while gaining additional knowledge and support.

We meet parents where they are emotionally, socially, culturally, and practically. We listen to their concerns, respect their decisions, and work collaboratively to identify goals that are meaningful to them. We understand that progress may look different for every family, and we celebrate both major accomplishments and small steps forward.

Our programs are intended to be accessible, practical, and responsive to real-life parenting needs. We seek to create safe learning environments where parents can speak honestly, ask questions, receive encouragement, and develop supportive relationships with others who understand the parenting journey

OUR COMMITMENT TO BLACK AND BROWN FAMILIES

Black and Brown parents often carry the responsibility of raising children while navigating racial inequities, cultural misunderstandings, limited access to services, financial pressures, and other systemic barriers. At the same time, Black and Brown communities possess deep traditions of resilience, creativity, family connection, advocacy, and collective care.

PEI recognizes both these challenges and these strengths. We are committed to providing support that respects the full experience of Black and Brown families. We strive to ensure that parents see their identities and experiences reflected in the education, resources, conversations, and community connections we provide. We seek to create spaces where Black and Brown parents feel heard rather than dismissed, understood rather than judged, and empowered rather than overlooked. We believe every family deserves support that protects its dignity, honors its culture, and builds upon its existing strengths.
